A story about a heart that had to be broken open in order to finally feel…

This May, Calliope Stage invites you into a world of wonder, heartbreak, and transformation with The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane—a theatrical adaptation of the cherished novel by Kate DiCamillo.

At the center of the story is Edward Tulane, a finely crafted porcelain rabbit who begins his life adored—but deeply self-absorbed. When he is unexpectedly separated from everything he knows, Edward is sent on an extraordinary journey that spans years, places, and people. Along the way, he encounters a series of caretakers—each leaving an imprint on his understanding of love, loss, and what it means to truly care for another.

Told through a small but versatile ensemble, this production transforms the stage into a constantly shifting landscape of memory and imagination. Edward’s journey unfolds as a series of vivid encounters—each one revealing the fragile and resilient nature of the human (and not-so-human) heart.

This is a story about:

  • The risk of loving and being loved

  • The inevitability of loss—and the possibility of healing

  • The ways we are shaped by those who hold us, even briefly

Perfect for families and adult audiences alike, Edward Tulane speaks across generations with honesty, humor, and quiet beauty.
