stage company

We believe the majesty of the Appalachian Mountains houses a tremendous opportunity for new theatre. We value the stories deep within these mountains and see their potential to garner the respect and admiration of theatre artists and audiences worldwide. Calliope Stage will build this bridge.

Land Acknowledgment

We respectfully acknowledge that we are on the traditional land of the Cherokee people.

We also acknowledge the devastation and continued damaging effects of actions taken against the Cherokee people - including stolen land by colonizers; forced removal from the signing of the Treaty of New Echota in 1835 resulting in the Trail of Tears between 1838-1839; and also in present day racism and marginalization that continues to exist in our society.

We honor the Cherokee people of the past, present, and future. We seek to respectfully engage in education and discussion to deepen the awareness and understanding in our Community of the Cherokee people, history, heritage, and culture. And we celebrate the many ways in which the Cherokee people enrich our community and artistic perspective.
